    Sea Moss Facial Benefits for Healthy Skin + 3 DIY Sea moss facial Recipes

    Sea moss has become a powerhouse ingredient in the beauty industry that last few years, and for good reason. Sea moss is a species of red algae that originates from the rocky parts of the Atlantic coasts of Europe and North America.

    Sea Moss Facial Benefits

    Not only does sea moss have digestible benefits but, there are topical benefits if applied to the skin.

    ** First and foremost, make sure you consult your doctor before applying a new supplement to your skin. If you plan to make your own facials using sea moss, make sure it’s pure in quality. Seaweeds accumulate toxic heavy metals such as cadmium, mercury, lead and arsenic and the shorelines where Irish moss grows are not certified clean of these toxic metals, or petrol products, or pesticides and herbicides which is why using certified organic Irish moss is important.

     "Here is a blog post that will help you determine quality sea moss once you’re ready to purchase. Many people use sea moss for its proposed health benefits.

    However, it’s important to note that many of the benefits of sea moss specifically are anecdotal and holistic. Scientists are still conducting research on its use for topical and digestive health. There are more studies on the health benefits of seaweed and algae than on sea moss itself. However, some of these benefits may also apply to sea moss because they grow in similar environments. **

    According to Dr. Karen Hammerman, a dermatologist at Schweiger Dermatology Group in Garden City, NY, she says

    “Due to a high sulfur content, sea moss has antibacterial, antiviral, and antimicrobial functions, and it is therefore believed to help with balancing the skin microbiome… "The high sulfur content can also decrease the excessive production of sebum in the skin. Together with the antibacterial effect on P. Acnes bacteria [which causes acne], it may help reduce the severity of acne in people who suffer from this condition.”

    Sea moss can be found in topical face care products such as moisturizers, SPF’s and masks. Based on my research on sea moss facial benefits, here is how sea moss can help with your skin care;

    • Help reduce the severity of acne
